As a leading manufacturer with over ten years of experience, HighMica offers high-performance, high-temperature gaskets for industrial applications. Mica’s naturally occurring layered crystal structure makes it chemically inert, electrically insulating, and thermally stable. HighMica’s premium mica gaskets are designed explicitly for extreme-temperature sealing and electrical insulation.
Our asbestos-free mica gaskets remain intact under extreme heat (engines, turbines, furnaces, and exhaust systems) without degrading, ensuring dependable sealing and a long service life in harsh environments.
Material Types & Performance
Phlogopite Mica Gaskets: The image above displays sample phlogopite gasket components made by HighMica. Phlogopite is a brown to amber mica that can tolerate service temperatures up to 1000 °C. HighMica’s gaskets made from phlogopite mica offer exceptional high-heat resistance.
When it comes to sealing hot engine or turbine exhaust manifolds (mica exhaust gaskets), high-temperature flanges, and furnace panels, phlogopite-based gaskets are ideal due to their exceptional electrical insulation (dielectric strength of ~21.7 kV/mm) and chemical inertness.

Muscovite Mica Gaskets: HighMica also produces gaskets from muscovite mica, appropriate for relatively high temperatures. Muscovite gaskets can operate continuously up to approximately 750 °C. The illustration above illustrates muscovite gasket sections (usually ivory or light brown).
Muscovite is ideal for electrical insulation applications, such as transformer seals or vacuum chamber gaskets, due to its exceptionally high dielectric strength (~25.7 kV/mm) and stable mechanical properties. Like phlogopite, muscovite mica is completely asbestos-free and non-toxic, guaranteeing its safe use in vital equipment.
Multiple cutting methods
HighMica offers multiple fabrication methods to produce custom gasket shapes with tight tolerances:
Laser Cutting: Fiber or CO₂ lasers offer precise cuts (±0.1 mm) for complicated profiles or multi-hole flanges. Laser cutting eliminates mechanical stress and yields clean edges in thin mica sheets.
CNC Machining: CNC routers and drills accurately create flat or curved pieces from thicker mica blocks or sheets. This is perfect for complex geometries and speedy prototyping.
Water Jet Cutting: Waterjet technology prevents thermal distortion, making it ideal for stress-sensitive or layered mica materials. High-pressure water (with or without abrasive) cuts mica without heat.
Stamping/Die Cutting: Steel-rule or punch dies can easily stamp massive volumes of simple shapes. This technology is cost-effective for big production runs of conventional flanges or washers.

Laser Cutting
Offers high precision and fast speeds, perfect for intricate designs; minimal heat impact reduces distortion; great for thin materials with smooth cut edges.

CNC Precision Engraving
Versatile for various materials, capable of handling flat surfaces and complex shapes with high surface finish; efficient for large-scale production.

Water Jet Cutting
No heat-affected zones, ensuring good cutting quality; eco-friendly and cost-effective, though it tends to be slower.

Mica Stamping
High efficiency and straightforward operation, great for mass production; can achieve precise size control, especially with thin materials.
Our in-house engineering supports your CAD or sample parts, guaranteeing that the mica gasket fits the flange dimensions precisely. We can meet custom thickness, tolerances, and design requirements.
Typical Applications
HighMica mica gaskets serve a variety of demanding industries. Key applications include:
Power Generation: Turbine flange seals and boiler joints in power plants.
Petrochemical & Oil/Gas: Seals for high-temperature reactor and pipeline flanges.
Automotive Exhaust (Mica Exhaust Gaskets): High-temperature gaskets for engine exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters. These mica exhaust gaskets endure engine heat cycles and corrosive gases.
Aerospace & Defense: Seals for hot-section engine parts and aircraft turbines.
High-Voltage & Electronics: Insulating gaskets for transformers, generators, and vacuum systems.
Mica’s electrical insulation and heat resistance are used in these applications. For instance, mica gaskets in power, oil, and gas plants prevent leaks under severe temperature cycling, and mica exhaust gaskets ensure dependable sealing in combustion engines.
Technical Specifications
HighMica’s mica gaskets are available with a range of specifications to meet engineering needs:
Material: Natural phlogopite or muscovite mica (no added asbestos). All products are RoHS-compliant and non-toxic.
Temperature Range: Up to 1000 °C for phlogopite gaskets and 750 °C for muscovite gaskets. Mica retains its strength and insulation in these extreme environments.
Dielectric Strength: Approximately 21–26 kV/mm (phlogopite ≈21.7 kV/mm; muscovite ≈25.7 kV/mm). This high breakdown voltage makes mica gaskets excellent electrical insulators.
Thickness: Standard sheets from 0.5 to 5 mm (custom thickness available). We cut gaskets from thin 0.5 mm sheets up to 5 mm thick plates to suit different flange gaps.
Cutting Tolerance: ±0.1 mm with CNC or laser cutting. HighMica offers precision cutting (laser, CNC, waterjet, and stamping) to ensure custom gaskets precisely match your flange or housing geometry.
Mechanical Recovery: Typically 18–25% compression with 39–43% recovery (per ASTM F36J). Mica gaskets recover well after load, maintaining seal integrity.
These specifications ensure the mica gaskets meet rigorous industry standards for thermal sealing. HighMica can provide data sheets or testing results on request.
FAQs
Phlogopite mica gaskets are preferred for extreme-heat applications due to their crystalline structure and chemical stability, which enable them to withstand temperatures and oxidation up to 1000 °C. Unlike many other materials, mica does not char or burn when subjected to extreme heat. It maintains its electrical insulating properties, allowing mica gaskets to keep a tight seal where regular gaskets would degrade.
Yes. HighMica uses only natural mica minerals and does not contain asbestos. Every mica gasket satisfies RoHS environmental regulations and is completely asbestos-free. Our gaskets are safe to use with contemporary industrial equipment because mica is non-toxic and inert to the majority of chemicals.
Indeed, HighMica offers custom cutting to accommodate complex shapes and sizes, with tolerances of ±0.1 mm achieved through the use of CNC and laser cutting. Just send us your flange drawing or sample, and we will fabricate the precise gasket shape you need. We also provide rapid prototyping (usually within a few days) to ensure fit and function.
