Mica Papers

Mica paper has excellent insulation, electric resistance, heat resistance and moisture resistance, which is the basis for manufacturing other mica parts, HighMica can customize products with various sizes and different smoothness according to customer needs.

We produce hard mica paper that can withstand temperatures of 500 degrees Celsius in a normal working environment over a long period of time and 850 degrees Celsius in a short period of time. In addition, our gold mica paper can work in an average environment of 1000 degrees Celsius, and its resistance to breakdown is top-notch, which is the most popular reason for its popularity.

What Is Mica Paper?

Mica paper includes muscovite, phlogopite, synthetic and calcined mica, and is a continuous roll made of high-quality mica insulation.

Application range

Because of its low mechanical strength, mica paper is generally not used directly and needs to be processed into various products with adhesives and other reinforcing materials, including mica sheets, mica tapes, mica rolls, mica tubes and various heat-resistant mica products, Mainly used in the industrial chemical industry, electrolytic aluminum electricity, and metallurgy.

Mica paper production process

Mica paper production process

Mica paper is made from crushed mica flakes (white mica, gold mica, synthetic mica) after chemical pulping or hydro-mechanical pulping, made into rolls on a circular mesh paper machine at a slow speed, and then cut into rolls or flat sheets. It maintains many of the excellent properties of natural mica and has uniform thickness and a small range of fluctuations in dielectric strength. It can replace natural mica in many applications and opens up a broad prospect for the comprehensive utilization of mica resources.

The mica paper process mainly includes seven steps: sorting, crushing, pulping, papermaking, forming, pressing, and drying.

Among them, the four steps of papermaking, molding, pressing and drying are already quite mature processes in mica paper production, so the three processes of mica crushing, sorting and pulping are the most important parts of the entire mica paper production process. The quality of a process is directly related to quality.

1. Sorting of mica

The degree of purification of mica raw materials directly affects the quality of mica paper.

There are many kinds of natural mica, and their properties are different. The mica fragments and scraps are used as raw materials for the production of mica paper, because they come from different mining areas or different veins, the performance of the mica paper produced is often very different. They must be stored in different categories and cannot be mixed. . The mica fragments are firstly removed with an 8-mesh mesh sieve to remove the ore, sediment, and powder, and remove large and thick mica slag and mica interlayer stones, and process them into qualified mica fragments. Then washing and flotation are carried out. Washing is used to remove the silt, dust, and powder attached to the mica fragments, and flotation is used to remove grass roots, leaves, rope heads and other sundries mixed in the mica fragments.

2. Crushing of mica

The calcination of mica is to put the mica into a special electric furnace, heat it to 700~800°C, and go through a constant temperature of 50~80min to remove part of the crystal water in the mica crystal so that the mica is produced along the vertical direction of the cleavage plane. Significant swelling and layering, becoming loose and soft, allowing acid and alkali solutions to infiltrate the layers evenly during the pulping process, splitting and breaking along the cleavage plane, forming as large and thin mica scales as possible.

The calcined mica is called mica clinker, and the mica clinker needs to be screened to remove the silt, ash content of combustibles and mica fragments with a diameter of less than 6 mm.

3. Pulping of mica

The comprehensive pulping method composed of hydraulic, mechanical, ultrasonic, etc. is a better method. The hydraulic pulping method is a pulping method commonly used in the manufacture of large-scale mica paper.

The pulping method of non-calcined natural mica fragments generally adopts the high-pressure hydraulic crushing method based on the impact force. The pressure of the high-pressure water flow from the nozzle is 1~2MPa, and the pressure and flow rate of the nozzle water flow can be adjusted according to the process requirements. , so as to improve the stripping efficiency of mica and avoid excessive crushing, and obtain high-quality pulp flakes with a large diameter-thickness ratio and a higher pulp yield.
