Mica Sheets

Laminated Mica sheets are made of layers of natural muscovite (or phlogopite) paper glued with silicon (or epoxy) resin and heat-pressed to form flat and uniform rigid or flexible insulation sheets.

Mica sheets are ideal insulation materials for various industrial applications due to their excellent electrical insulation, high thermal stability, flame retardant properties, deformation resistance, and electromagnetic isolation performance.

Mica sheets can be processed into insulating components, including washers, gaskets, covers, and seals. We provide mica sheets in various sizes, including 600 mm x 1000 mm, 1200 mm x 1000 mm, and a maximum size of 1300 mm x 2600 mm.

Types of mica sheets

Muscovite Mica Sheet
Muscovite Mica Sheet

Muscovite Mica sheet can be used as an electrical insulation component that withstands 700 ℃. When the temperature exceeds this, crystalline water will precipitate from the muscovite mica. Due to its fireproof and heat-resistant properties, it is often used as electrical insulation and in high-temperature refractory materials.

Phlogopite Mica Sheet
Phlogopite Mica Sheet

Compared to Muscovite, Phlogopite will keep working stability as an electrical insulation material from 750℃ to 850℃.  It is widely used in heating equipment insulation components, industrial furnaces, EV flame retardant flash hiders, new energy, and aerospace industries.

Synthetic Mica Sheet
Synthetic Mica Sheet

Synthetic mica board is made from artificially manufactured mica. Mica crystals are formed by high-temperature melting and cooling through chemical methods. Synthetic mica insulation sheets can resist temperatures up to 1000 ℃.

Muscovite and phlogopite mica will also have high-temperature stability and flame-retardant properties at high temperatures when crystalline water separates from the mica. For example, some muscovite mica will be used for high-temperature calcination and the precipitate water process to produce calcined mica, which can withstand temperatures of up to 1000℃. So, some muscovite mica sheets have a tighter and more stable structure than phlogopite. When you have an inquiry, please let us know so we can suggest the most suitable solutions.

Flexible Mica Sheets are a popular insulation material. They consist of multiple layers of phlogopite/muscovite mica paper with a high-temperature silicone resin. The sheets are bendable and have high tensile strength, making them ideal for punching insulation gaskets or mats for appliances and furnaces.

Features of flexible mica sheet:

  • Flexible and high-tensile strength, most popular thicknesses are 0.5~1.0mm, which will be punched into heating protection mats, washers, and insulation sealing parts.
  • Excellent thermal resistance: muscovite mica resists 500~700℃, Phlogopite mica resists 750~850℃, and Synthetic/Muscovite Calcined mica resists more than 1000℃. The most popular phlogopite mica sheets are used in the furnace.
  • Excellent electric insulation; typically, the breakdown voltage exceeds 16 kV/mm.
  • Different flexible materials can be customized for other uses.
  • Customized mica sheet inserts with glass-fiber cloth and stainless steel woven are available for special demand.
  • Eco-friendly and non-asbestos.

Flexible mica sheet application:

  • The flexible mica sheet can be bent and punched according to the CAD design. The elastic mica sheet mat is very suitable as an insulating mat for equipment such as microwave ovens and toasters.
  • The flexible mica sheet can be cut into strips and rolled into the sealing element. The perfect expansion performance ensures that the sealing joint maintains good performance even at high temperatures, such as those in automobile exhaust pipes.
  • Flexible phlogopite sheets are resistant to high temperatures above 800°C and are widely used in induction, arc, and high-frequency furnaces. Mica sheets, similar to ceramics, can be combined with other materials to achieve multiple functions and be utilized according to customer needs.

Rigid Mica Sheets, also known as Mica boards or Plates, are made of approximately 90% Muscovite(or Phlogopite) and 10% silicone (or epoxy) resin by heating and pressing. Mica sheets provide excellent high-voltage electrical insulation at high temperatures.

Features of Rigid Mica Sheet:

  • Excellent thermal resistance, muscovite mica resists 500~700℃; Phlogopite mica resists 750~850℃; and Synthetic/Muscovite Calcined mica resists more than 1000℃.
  • Excellent electric insulation, typically the breakdown voltage is more than 16kV/mm.
  • The rigid mica sheet has a tight structure, free from air bubbles or holes, and exhibits high flexural strength, as well as a smooth cutting edge.
  • Excellent mechanical strength and a double heating pressing time ensure an extremely high density for over-thick mica boards; it’s suited for sawing, drilling, grinding, laser, and waterjet cutting.
  • The mica sheet is distributed evenly, with no impurities, and exhibits a beautiful color and luster.
  • A one-time 3D shape formed by a mold tool is available.
  • Eco-friendly and non-asbestos.

Rigid mica sheet application:

  • Mica board boasts excellent mechanical strength and is well-suited for precision sawing, drilling, and grinding with high-performance tools. It can also be an insulating element for high-temperature and high-pressure equipment.
  • Insulation can be used to create heating element cards, gaskets, partitions, or covers, such as those found in hair dryer heating wires and brackets.
  • Widely used in heating household appliances, equipment, electric furnaces, motor insulation, transformer power generation and distribution, electric/hybrid vehicles, etc.
  • A 3D-shaped mica protective cover can be provided, which can be molded simultaneously through the mold.

How to make mica sheets?

The laminate mica sheets production steps are as follows:

  1. Gluing high-quality muscovite mica paper, phlogopite mica paper, or synthetic mica paper with high-temperature silicon resin.
  2. Cut the glued mica paper to 1020 mm* 2420 mm and 1020 mm* 1220 mm, and stack the glued mica paper to achieve different thicknesses.
  3. Heating presses the mica paper to the mica sheets, with over 20 years of experience in making high-quality ones.
  4. The mica sheets were cut to sizes of 1000*600 mm, 1000*1200 mm, and 1000*2400 mm, and then packed in cartons and wooden pallets.

Mica Sheets packing & delivery

Mica sheets are packed in PE film cartons, with each box weighing approximately 50kg.

Then, approximately 20 carton boxes, each containing 1000kg of mica sheets, were fixed on wooden pallets.

(Size: 1200*1000mm or 2400*1000mm) for ocean transport.
